The Original Katong Laksa 1950Started in the 1940s in Marine Parade, a legendary Peranakan Laksa stall served gravy so captivating that it attracted people from all over Singapore.
Like most stalls in the early days, it did not have a name. But everyone remembered our founder, Mr Ng Juat Swee, who sprouted a few hairs from a mole below his chin, as Uncle Janggul.
Together with his younger brother, Mr Ng Chwee Seng, they carried laksa in metal buckets balanced on a pole over their shoulders. To make it easier to eat laksa on the streets, the noodles were cut short and eaten with a spoon. This became a trademark of Katong Laksa and our business is now known as Janggut Laksa.
