Not an impressive first experience from this caterer :-(

The "golden phoenix chicken" dish did not come with any discernible chicken meat - merely chicken skin smeared thinly with some bean skin and fish-paste-like substance, and the portion was miserable! We were also not informed beforehand that the ... More mango pudding would come as store-bought factory-made mini cups which tasted quite nasty & synthetic. Other caterers we've used in the past made their own mango puddings (with or without sago, pomelo or other accompaniments) which proved far superior. Other dishes fitted the "edible, but can be better" description pretty well. Overall, this was quite a disappointing experience in comparison with the CNY reunion dinner we enjoyed from another caterer (which we rated 15 out of 15) just two days earlier!

We were satisfied with the quality of the ingredients and cooking of the dishes. The braised duck was tender and the pleasantly unusual seasoning of the spring chicken received compliments from our diners. The other items on the menu were creditable ... More too (e.g. salmon fillets flavoursome and not overcooked, prawns succulent, etc.). Portions of the dishes were mostly decent but we could do with more of the dessert presented in delectable bite-size morsels as the quantity provided was rather stingy. Despite this minor quibble, we've decided to award this caterer our first 15/15 given the overall positive dining experience.

Particularly tasty was the beef stew (although the "mashed potato au gratin" bit seemed to be missing from this dish!), the salad prawns were ... More succulent as they should be and the baked garlic parmesan chicken was also well-received. One minor quibble was that the Christmas strawberry "cheese cake" tasted more like vanilla genoise sponge with thinly spread strawberry-flavoured cream on top and in between the sponge layers! Total score: 14/15.

Disappointed that the baked potato au gratin came as just a plain potato salad with mayonnaise, neither baked nor crusty/cheesy as implied by the term 'au gratin'. Mystery Hill shiraz was likewise substituted by a Coopers Crossing 2013 Australian ... More outback shiraz. The chocolate bailey pearly log cake was dense with thick butter cream filling and relatively scanty sponge. The words 'bailey' and 'pearly' should have been left out of the title as they suggested something more ethereal.

Except for the excessively/sickly sweet dessert item which was not actually made by the catering company itself (to be fair, advance notice of this fact was given by the staff who attended to my order), all the other dishes were reasonably ... More well-cooked, properly seasoned and of appropriate portions. The roast chicken was probably cooked way ahead of time which accounted for its dryness but otherwise all the other savoury dishes were well received by our guests. All in all, pretty good value for money for a small family birthday dinner. Will seriously consider using this caterer in future.
